Asbestos Removal, Commercial Roofing / Cladding and Industrial Roof Lights
Safe asbestos roof removal and installation of a new 130mm composite roofing system across two warehouse units, complete with 68 new rooflights, upgraded roof details and a 98 kWp rooftop solar array.
We delivered a full commercial roof refurbishment for SRS Aromatics Ltd at Beodric House in Bury St Edmunds. We replaced 1,120m² of asbestos roofing with a modern composite roofing system designed for long-term performance.
The project brought together asbestos roof removal, roof replacement, better natural daylight, improved rainwater management and a base for on-site solar generation. Completed to the required specification between November 2025 and January 2026, the refurbishment has given the building a safer, more energy-efficient roof that now generates its own power.

The Brief: A Complete Commercial Roof Upgrade
The brief was to refurbish the roofs of both warehouse units and provide a replacement system suited to the building's long-term needs. A key part of the project was the safe removal of the asbestos cement roofing, followed by the installation of a new 130mm composite roofing system.
The refurbishment also went beyond the main roof covering. Rooflights, flashings, gutters and parapets were all in the scope, so these important elements were dealt with as part of the overall roof upgrade.
Together, the works focused on improving the building's safety, energy efficiency, natural daylight and protection from the weather.
Safe Removal of the Existing Asbestos Roof
The first stage was the safe removal of the existing asbestos cement roof, carried out by our own trained team under non-licensed asbestos controls. Asbestos cement sheeting is common on industrial buildings of this era; our guide to asbestos roofs on pre-2000 industrial buildings explains what owners need to know.
Before any sheets were lifted, we installed 1,200m² of safety netting beneath the roof, along with perimeter edge protection. This protected operatives throughout the strip and re-sheet. Asbestos waste was segregated into dedicated hazardous waste skips for safe disposal.
Removing the old roof let us deliver a full refurbishment, with the new roofing system and associated details installed as one coordinated project.
Installation of a 130mm Composite Roofing System
Once the existing roofing was removed, we installed a new Joris Ide composite roofing system with a 130mm PIR insulated core. It has an HPS200 coated finish in Goosewing Grey. We used the same system on our commercial roof replacement in Braintree.
Composite roof panels combine an external weathering surface with an insulated core. The new roof achieves a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K, a major improvement on the poorly insulated asbestos sheets it replaced. The panels are FM Approved and backed by a 40-year manufacturer's warranty.
The installation also transformed the roof's appearance, giving both units a clean, consistent finish.
Replacement Rooflights to Improve Natural Daylight
As part of the roof replacement, we installed 68 new rooflights, covering about 180m², or around 16% of the roof area.
Rooflights bring daylight into internal areas that get little light from windows. More natural light can reduce reliance on artificial lighting during the day and makes for a brighter working environment.
The new thermally efficient rooflights achieve a U-value of 0.95 W/m²K. That means the extra daylight doesn't come at the cost of heat loss.
Upgraded Flashings, Gutters and Parapets
A complete roof refurbishment needs attention to the details around the main roof covering. Alongside the composite roof, we upgraded the flashings, gutters and 340m² of parapets:
Including these elements meant the project covered both the main roof and the details that support effective weather protection and drainage.
Solar PV: Turning the New Roof into a Power Source
The new composite roof gave SRS Aromatics the ideal base for on-site renewable energy. Once the roof was complete, a 98 kWp solar PV system was installed on it. If you're considering solar, read our guide: Industrial Roofs and Solar: Is Your Roof Ready?
The system has 152 high-output 645W panels and two 40kW inverters, and was commissioned in January 2026. It's forecast to generate around 81,000 kWh of clean electricity a year, cutting the building's reliance on the grid and lowering its running costs.
The Result: A Safer, More Energy-Efficient Building
The completed project has given SRS Aromatics Ltd a modern roofing system designed for long-term performance, with every part of the work delivered to the required specification.
The refurbishment delivered:
By bringing the roof covering, rooflights and details together in one refurbishment, we delivered a complete upgrade that supports the building's continued use for decades to come.
